For 208 years First Church, Congregational, on the Square in Downtown Painesville, has welcomed the community through its doors for spiritual support and guidance. A special service will be held on Sunday, June 17th at 10:00 a.m. to commemorate its anniversary and Father’s Day.
First Church is the oldest congregation in Lake County, dating back to 1810 during the presidency of James Madison. The church has preserved some of its history in its features including high ceilings, old-fashioned woodwork and beautiful fireplaces.
Rev. Tom Cofer, senior pastor at First Church Congregational said, “Our church’s rooms are adorned with period furnishings, just as they would have been back in the day. We encourage everyone to join us in celebration of our 208th anniversary. It is truly wonderful and exciting to work and worship in this building.”
A special dedication will be held immediately following service at 11:00 a.m. to dedicate the steps that were added as part of a recent renovation.
