In observance of Veterans Day, Laketran will be offering free rides to veterans on Monday, November 12th. Riders on Local Routes and Park-n-Ride will need to inform their driver that they are a veteran when they board the bus, and their trip will be free. Dial-a-Ride customers should inform Laketran of their veteran status when scheduling their reservation.

“Laketran and its employees salute our nation’s veterans and thank them for their service,” said Laketran CEO, Ben Capelle. “There are never enough opportunities for people to show their appreciation for the sacrifice our veterans make for our country. Offering free rides is the least we can do.”

Laketran also offers free Veterans Medical Transportation service year-round to Lake County veterans. For over twenty years, Laketran has partnered with Lake County Veterans Service Commission and Lake County Commissioners to provide free door-to-door, Dial-a-Ride transportation for Lake County veterans and their spouses to the county’s new VA outpatient clinic in Willoughby, the Veterans Service Center (VSC) in downtown Painesville, and the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in University Circle.

More recently, Laketran and the VSC expanded the program subsidizing free Dial-a-Ride transportation to any adult day care or medical appointment for Lake County veterans, either in Lake County or to University Circle area hospitals. Veterans must register with Lake County Veterans Service Commission to be eligible for free medical transportation.

Last year, Laketran provided 8,454 free rides for veterans to access their medical appointments.

“Laketran has a long history of supporting veterans and their families through our Veterans Medical Transportation program,” explained Brian Falkowski, president of the Laketran Board of Trustees. “On November 12th, we would like to continue to show our support by offering free rides to veterans on all of our services.”
