More than 100 runners and walkers braved an early morning chill to hit the trails for the first Run for the Health of It 5K race and walk, held October 15th by Lake County Free Clinic. Their support, along with community sponsors and donors, helped raise more than $15,000 for the clinic.

“It was such a great morning, and we can’t thank the sponsors and committee enough for their support,” Boogaart said. “Their support helped to raise much-needed funds and awareness for the clinic.”

Sponsors include:

  • Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center
  • Case Western Reserve University Physician Assistant Program
  • Ohio for Responsible Gambling
  • Lighthouse Advisers
  • Hanahan & Hinton LLC
  • Lake Health
  • BioLife Plasma Services
  • Cleveland Clinic
  • Omega One Natural Seafood Formula
  • HealthCare for Business
  • Benedict Insurance Agency, Inc.
  • Second Sole Mentor
  • Greater Cleveland XC

Run for the Health of It committee members, chaired by Jodi Lohrey, included: Joanna Buchannon, Cheryl Cairns, Sue Deming, Maureen Ordman Fike, Ken Nicolai, Mary McKernan-Gryzmala, Grace Rotter and Mary Vavpetic.

In addition, more than 20 other volunteers donated their time the day of the event.

“Jodi and her team worked so hard to put together this first-time event, with very little previous experience,” Ott said. “They each jumped in and brought something to the table – bringing along their friends, coworkers and their families, to make the event a success. We are so very grateful to have their support and deep belief in our mission that everyone deserves access to quality care. They truly ‘walked the walk!’”

Lake County Free Clinic exists to address the unmet healthcare needs of the residents in our community through the provision of quality medical and dental care. This care is provided, free of charge, to individuals who are uninsured, under-insured, or otherwise unable to access much-needed healthcare.

For more than 40 years, the Lake County nonprofit has provided vital medical and dental care to individuals from northeast Ohio. In fact, Lake County Free Clinic is the only free clinic serving Lake, Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, and Geauga counties, along with clients from other locations.
