The Fine Arts Association opens its 2017-2018 Theatre Season with the psychological thriller “Wait Until Dark” in the Corning Auditorium from September 29th through October 15th.
The play premiered on Broadway in 1966 starring Lee Remick as Susy Hendrix, a blind Greenwich Village housewife who is besieged by con-men searching for a doll that contains contraband. Remick was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play that year. However, most recognize the story from the 1967 film version starring Audrey Hepburn in the leading role.
The adaptation The Fine Arts Association is presenting is set in the nineteen forties during WWII, which director Ann Hedger believes “adds yet another layer of suspense and intrigue.”
Hedger explains that “the war had a great impact on daily life with men away and crime rates rising. Women had to learn how to step up and defend themselves. This play embodies these themes, wrapped up in great writing and storytelling.” Hedger further states that “There are many twists and turns that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats from the very first moment. I think that this version is even more intriguing than the film [version] with the changes that were made.” Hedger is excited about her cast that includes veteran FAA actors, an FAA theatre faculty member, a new-to-Ohio actor, and an FAA student.
“Wait Until Dark” production dates include Fridays and Saturdays, September 29th, 30th, October 6th, 7th, 13th & 14th at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays October 1st, 8th & 15th at 2:00 p.m. The Sunday, October 15th performance will also be sign-interpreted. This production is rated Mature.
