It’s a new year and a new chance to enjoy the winter season. It’s a special time of year when the snow falls onto the pine trees, the lakes freeze over and a cozy fire makes life that much better. Don’t let the season go by without taking advantage of these 10 awesome activities that are a MUST this winter.

1. Snow Ball Fight

A classic and a favorite of many neighborhood kids, a snow ball fight will not only get your heart pumping but will get you laughing and smiling. Don your snow gear and gather up your kids and some friends to have fun. If you’d like, turn it into a more purposeful game by making teams or have a wild free-for-all.

2. Make a Hot Pot of Spiced Cider

Little else signifies the winter season better than a cup of homemade hot cider. Making spiced cider is easy and fun. Grab a half gallon of apple cider, a cinnamon stick, ¼ cup brown sugar, ½ tsp whole allspice, 1 tsp whole cloves, ¼ tsp salt, a pinch of nutmeg and quarter orange wedges with peel. Put all the ingredients into a coffee filter in your coffee basket. Put the cider into where the water usually goes and serve it hot.

3. Go Snowshoeing

If you enjoy going outdoors in the winter or if you’ve never really done it, snowshoeing is a great way to explore. Not only are they easy to use for beginners but snowshoes can be rented by the hour. Get out and have fun with your family on a snowy hike.

4. Watch the Flames of a Roaring Fire

If you have a fireplace or wood stove in your home, now is your chance to fire it up! Not only will it be warm and cozy for the whole family but watching the flames can be entertaining.

5. Listen to the Wind Howl

On a chilly night when no one is out and the snow has fallen, the wind tells a story all its own. Spend some time this winter listening to the wind rush through the barren trees and push the healthy pines to and fro.

6. Throw a Super Bowl Party

With the Super Bowl only a few weeks away, start planning the 2015 party every one of your friends wants to come to.

Pine cones are a simple yet interesting decoration for your home. Now is the time of year to find them on the ground.
