10 Ways You Can Be a Better Friend

Being a good friend is something we should all aspire to. At one time or another, we all need a good friend to lean on. So, in turn, we should try to be a good friend that can be depended on. But what does it mean to be a good friend?

1. Don’t judge others

Everyone makes mistakes at one time or another. A good friend will understand that a momentary lapse of judgment does not truly define someone’s personality. Friends see each other for what they are and what they want to be. No one wants to be judged for their mistakes and shortcomings, so to be a good friend, one must overlook negative qualities and highlight the good ones.

2. Be accepting

Another aspect of being a good friend is being accepting of one’s differences. The world would be a boring place if everyone were the same. Whereas it is beneficial to have friends with similar interests, it is equally good to have friends with different interests who will help us expand our horizons.

3. Pick up as no time has passed

Time and circumstances often leads friends away from each other. Despite how far away in distance two friends can be, they will always be close at heart. Even if they don’t speak to each other every day, they are at least in each other’s thoughts and hearts. That way, when they are together it does truly seem like no time has passed.

4. Show gratitude

Showing gratitude is important in life. It is especially important with friends. A good friend will show that they are thankful when someone has done something out of kindness and friendship.

5. Be truthful

Good friends do not lie to each other. Even though the truth is sometimes hard to hear, a good friend knows how to be honest without hurting the other’s feelings.

6. Be forgiving

Friends will sometimes fight, often over silly things. A good friend knows how to forgive the other, even when it is difficult to do so.

7. Be dependable

It may sound cliché, but a good friend is someone you can count on. When the world seems to be crashing down, a friend will be there to hold it up for you.

8. Be supportive

Good friends know how to support each other, even when they don’t agree. It is difficult to support someone you don’t agree with, but a true friend will do so without question or hesitation.

9. Be selfless

Everyone has his or her own stresses in life. Good friends will put their own worries on the back burner for the sake of a friend.

10. Be helpful

True friends help each other out. At one time or another, everyone needs a helping hand. Good friends won’t think twice before helping each other out.
