Just when you thought you’d heard everything, here’s a new one. If you’re among the hordes of folks who thought Coke was strictly a simple beverage that tickled the back of your throat, you’re wrong. There’s a plethora of uses for the sweet carbonated drink that don’t require a frosty glass and ice cubes.

  1. Have a bug bite or bee sting? Pouring Coke on one of these ailments will help to neutralize the pain. Be sure to have an extra can with you if you are planning a trip to the ocean because this trick works on jellyfish stings as well.
  2. Farmers in India have been known to use the sweet drink as an insecticide on their crops.
  3. This may seem counter-intuitive, but Coke makes a great window cleaner. All you need to do is pour some onto a clean rag and wipe the window. But, be sure to rinse it down as the windows will be sticky if you don’t.
  4. The next time skunk season rolls around, make sure to have some Coke on hand, especially if you have a pet. If your cat or dog gets into a scuffle with a skunk, just wash the animal with Coke and just rinse it off. The smell will vanish.
  5. You know the acid that’s in Coke that makes dentists cringe? Well, there’s an upside to it; it will clean your toilet. Phosphoric acid will break down the lime and rust that builds up in a toilet. Just pour in a can, let it sit a little while, scrub lightly with a brush, and flush it all away.
  6. Ok all you dermatologists, don’t read this one – for the rest of you – Coke will give you a great tan. Forget those expensive tanning lotions and instead reach for a Coke. Apply it over your skin and hit the poolside. Not only will you tan easily, it will last you for months.
  7. Do you live in a cold climate? Do you need to defrost your car window quickly? Pop open a can of Coke and let it do the work.
  8. Want to give your photos that old-fashioned look? Soak your new photos in a pan of Coke for a few minutes. When it’s the shade you want, lift the photo out and pat it dry and finish drying with a hair dryer. You’ll have that gorgeous sepia tone in no time.
  9. Have hiccups that won’t go away? Skip breathing into a bag or trying to down a whole tablespoonful of peanut butter. Hold your breath briefly and then quickly drink a full glass of cold Coke. Your hiccups will disappear.
  10. Those of you who have ever gotten gum in your hair know the horror show that can be. The solution tended to be taking a scissors and cutting the sticky clump out of the hair. And, if the gum was close to the scalp, the grow-out time was long and slow. A better solution is to soak the gum-coated hair in a small bowl of Coke. Let it sit for a few minutes and the gum will come right out.
  11. Victims of dry skin rejoice! Mix a spoonful of Coke into some unscented lotion and rub it into your skin. The result is days of soft, smooth supple skin.
  12. Tired of your grass looking brown and lifeless? Fill a spray bottle with Coke and spray your lawn once a month. Your lawn will be the envy of the neighborhood. Go ahead and add a cup of ammonia and ¼ cup of dish soap to it if you want to keep bugs at bay, too.
  13. If you have a head cold and are out of medicine, crack open a Coke to help you feel better. This may seem a bit odd, but a nice glass of warm Coke before bedtime will help clear up your sinuses.
  14. Out of stain remover for your laundry? No problem; Coke’s got you covered. Just pour some Coke on your laundry stains and let it soak for a few minutes. Then wash as you normally would. This even works on tough stains like grease and blood.
  15. Finally, if you suffer from asthma, Coke can be a life-saver. The caffeine level in two cans of Coke can offset an asthma attack.
