Children, families and adults can enjoy canoe and kayak boating, and basic water safety training, on the Grand River during the Boating Adventure program at the Lake County Outdoor Y in June and July.
“Our improved Boating Adventure program teaches kids and adults how to be safe in and around water whether they want to canoe or kayak. Not only will they learn basic water safety training but also how to safely use small watercrafts and check their equipment before they journey onto the water,” said Kathy Steinmetz, program director at the Lake County Outdoor Y
“Small class sizes allow us to have a more intimate setting for children and adults, no matter their skill level. And, our final class trip will be an exciting, 5-mile adventure down the Grand River,” added Steinmetz.
Boating Adventure programs are held on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to Noon. The first session is scheduled for June 13, 20 and 27. The second session is scheduled for July 11, 18 and 25. All sessions are held at the Lake County Outdoor Y, 4540 River Rd. in Perry.
Children 10 years and older must pass a basic deep-water safety test to participate. Adults are also welcome to participate in the Boating Adventure.
The fee for these Boating Adventure sessions is $35 for Y members and $45 for program participants. Class sizes are limited; early registration is recommended. The Lake County Y provides all equipment necessary to participate.
