Autumn is here, and the days are getting shorter. Leaves are changing in vibrant hues of red, yellow and orange. Nights are cool and crisp. Before your calendar fills up and the season is over, why not make some fun family plans to visit Lake Farmpark to make the most of this season?

Corn and Pumpkins are the themes for the upcoming Fall Harvest Weekends. On Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10 and 11, then again on Oct. 17 and 18, you and your family can experience fall on the farm as you help husk, shell and grind corn. Play some corn hole or corn darts, then take home your own handmade corn husk doll as a memento.

Learn how to plow behind the Farmpark’s draft horses. Later, get rid of the chill by sampling some harvest stew, made with the Farmpark’s own potatoes. For dessert, help crank some pumpkin ice cream. Before you leave, why not paint a pumpkin to take home?

All Fall Harvest Weekend activities are included with regular Farmpark admission. Pony rides and pumpkin painting are available at an additional charge. Admission for ages 12 to 59 is $6, $5 for those aged 60+. Children two to 11 are $4, while children under two are admitted at no charge. Farmpark members are always admitted free.

While you’re there, why not check out the three-acre corn maze? At Lake Metroparks Farmpark, the corn grows tall, creating the perfect place to explore. Trivia questions are posted throughout the maze. Only the correct answer will help you continue along to the proper path.

Take a break at the play area, located near the entrance of the maze. It includes an assortment of farm-themed character cutouts, providing some fun photo opportunities. The maze is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Oct. 18. To check the conditions of the maze, call 800-366-FARM or follow Lake Metroparks on Twitter @LakeMetroparks.

Last year, as an October Centennial gift to the community, The Cleveland Foundation gave more than 6,000 residents free admission to Lake Metroparks Farmpark on Oct. 12. In order to commemorate the one year anniversary of this generous gift, Lake Metroparks will be giving away a prize package worth over $300 this year. The prize package includes a family membership to Lake Metroparks Farmpark, a foursome at Earie Shores Golf Course, tickets for Halloween hayrides, and more. Only one entry is permitted per person, drawing will be held on Oct. 12. For more contest info, click here.
