Great Lakes Mall to Host Boy Scouts Pinewood Derby

derby car FBGreat Lakes Mall will host the famed Boy Scouts Pinewood Derby, which is a fun and challenging down slope racing event.

Using only five ounces of pinewood and four nails, Boy Scout troops build their own gravity-propelled cars and race against other troops in the area. The community is invited to cheer on the young men as they put their engineering skills to the test!

The heart of The Pinewood Derby is in the process itself – bonds are strengthened as Scouts partner with a parent or adult mentor to develop teamwork skills, exercise creativity and build good sportsmanship through competition.

Since the first Pinewood Derby was held in 1953, close to 100 million cars have been built. Guests have the opportunity to cheer on their favorite entries throughout this exciting free event.

The Pinewood Derby will take place on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Great Lakes Mall, 7850 Mentor Avenue in Mentor.
