Great Lakes Mall, Mentor’s one-stop family shopping, dining and entertainment destination, will offer exciting holiday events throughout the weekend.

In the spirit of giving back to the community, Hearts and Hands Community Day (Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.) will allow nonprofit groups to have the opportunity to recruit new volunteers, promote upcoming events and broaden their community ties. Participating organizations include Lake-Geauga Habitat for Humanity, Crossroads and Mentor Figure Skating – Ice Diamonds.

The 21st annual Protect and Serve Tavern event (Dec. 12 from noon – 4 p.m.) will remind everyone to drive sober during the holiday season. Hosted by the Lake County Crime Prevention Taskforce, the Lake County Chiefs of Police Association and the Lake County Safe Communities Coalition, local police chiefs and judges will act as bartenders, serving non-alcoholic drinks and snacks to mall shoppers. Officers will also invite shoppers to try the “Fatal Vision” goggle demonstration, which mimics alcohol impairment.

Sit. Stay. Pose. Grab a purr-fect or fetching pet photo with Santa on Sunday, Dec. 13, from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Pet Photo Night will be hosted after regular mall hours and the set will get an extensive cleaning following the event to remove any potential risk to allergy sufferers.

In addition, shoppers will enjoy performances throughout the weekend on the mainstage, located outside of Macy’s. On Saturday, Dec. 12, the TNT Starlettes will perform at 2 p.m. Then, on Sunday, Dec. 13, guests will enjoy choreographed dances, courtesy of On Your Toes Dance at 2 p.m., followed by Showstoppers from 4 – 6 p.m.

Plus, shoppers will enjoy the added convenience of gift wrapping beginning on Friday, December 11. For a complete schedule, as well as a list of the benefitting organizations, please click here.
