The Lake County General Health District (LCGHD) is committed to helping families stay healthy through preventative healthcare services, community programs, and educational initiatives. From immunizations and health screenings to youth tobacco prevention and nutrition education, LCGHD provides valuable resources for families throughout Lake County.
Tobacco Awareness & Prevention at the KidShow
At this year’s KidShow, LCGHD will focus on youth tobacco prevention with engaging and educational exhibits. Families can explore:
- Healthy vs. unhealthy visuals showing the impact of tobacco use
- Smoker’s mouth displays to highlight the effects on oral health
- A showcase of confiscated tobacco products from local schools
Parents will have the opportunity to sign postcards in support of youth tobacco cessation programs, while kids can take the Smoke-Free Pledge by signing a banner—earning a fun giveaway item of their choice!
Family-Focused Health & Safety Programs
LCGHD offers a variety of programs that promote child and family well-being, including:
✔️ Car Seat Program – Providing car seat safety education and assistance
✔️ Cribs for Kids – Ensuring safe sleep environments for infants
✔️ Kiwanis Park Story Walk – Promoting literacy and outdoor activity
✔️ Safe Communities – Offering traffic safety education and resources
✔️ Tobacco Cessation Programs – Helping youth and adults quit tobacco use
✔️ Community Nutrition & WIC Support – Ensuring families have access to healthy food and breastfeeding resources
Community Collaboration & Outreach
LCGHD actively partners with local schools and organizations to promote health and safety in Lake County. Their team provides educational presentations and activities for students, including tobacco cessation programs in schools and the Lake County Juvenile Detention Center.
Through community-driven initiatives, LCGHD helps families connect with vital resources. One example is the Lake-Geauga WIC Mothers’ Milk Bank, which has collected over 6,000 ounces of donated breast milk for infants in need.
