On the afternoon of Thursday, May 28, Laketran anticipates the local public transportation agency will reach a historic milestone serving its 20 millionth passenger. To celebrate the achievement, Laketran staff will be on-board the bus to surprise a passenger and award him/her with a certificate of recognition, a gift card and $100 Smart Card to be used for future Laketran trips.
Previous milestone riders include: Irene Dailyda, the one millionth passenger, in 1992; Anna Lusin, Laketran’s five millionth passenger, in 1997; Linda Rollins, Laketran’s ten millionth passenger, in 2003; and the one millionth Park-n-Ride passenger, Sean Conway, in 2005.
Laketran has been tracking ridership since 1985 when the agency first started running buses. In 2010, electronic fares boxes were installed in all buses to make passenger counting more efficient.
In 2014, Laketran served over 750,000 riders.
